In Loving Memory of Rita S. Cook (nee Jones)
May 26, 1960 – February 11, 2026
We remember Rita S. Cook with love and gratitude. Born and raised in San Diego, California, she was the beloved daughter of Robert and Sachiko Jones and passed away in the city she called home.
A proud Navy wife, Rita worked for many years in retail. She had a passion for gaming and traveling, and she especially cherished the time she spent in Japan with her grandmother.
Rita faced type 1 diabetes and coronary heart disease with immense strength and courage. Throughout her life, she remained a constant source of kindness, known by all for her adventurous spirit, big heart, and generosity. She often reminded those around her that “God is good.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sachiko Jones, and her brother, Stephen Jones.
She is survived by Kelvin Cook, her husband of forty years; her daughter, Kimberly Cook; her sisters, Cindy Douglas and Sonya Smith; her nieces and nephews, Dion Douglas Jr., T’Shara Parker, Anthony Douglas, Marquesa Kirkland, and Kristena Charles; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service for Rita will be held on May 26, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
