Diane Susan Tusler

I met Diane through “any service member” letters. During the Gulf War of 90/91, mail was free if sent to support military personnel. She wrote, and out of an aircraft hangar full of boxes of letters to anyone, I got her letter and wrote back telling her what I did and thanking her for supporting us. She wrote back again, and I replied, giving her the gospel and recommending that she read the King James New Testament. The writing continued, I wrote her every chance I got, the more I learned of her the more I loved her. This was opposite of what I had in mind when I left San Diego for war. I was a single sailor living on a 27-foot sailboat with no intentions of getting married. Jesus had other ideas.

When I returned, I called her and took a cab over to her house. She and her son Garrett, had placed a giant banner across their 2-car garage door saying Welcome Home. Having already fallen in Love with her through the letters, we dated and got married by Pastor Doug Fisher in San Diego on December 28, 1991.

Diane got saved under Pastor Fisher’s preaching and us reading the bible together.

She was a good person and a Great Christian Lady. I was so blessed by Jesus to be her husband.

Diane was a teacher for 32 years. Bilingual in Spanish, she excelled at teaching her favorite subject, math. She made an enormous impact on many students as a teacher because she truly cared for them. She loved animals, especially Okapi’s, and frequented the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park while living in San Diego and shared that love with her grandchildren.

She loved visiting her son Garrett, his wife Erin, and teaching the grandkids Conner and Shelby recipes and how to bake from scratch. Shelby now bakes as a means to help others because of it.

Diane was an expert at crafts, sewing, quilting, and embroidery. She loved making handmade items and giving them to people; she had a very charitable heart. She taught her daughter-in-law, Erin, to quilt and her grandchildren to sew. Some of her favorite things were Lighthouses, Cardinals, and the color Green.

Diane’s true passion was serving Jesus Christ by helping the ladies in her Sunday school class.

She labored many hours each week in preparation by reading and praying about the subject lesson. She really wanted to bless “My Ladies,” as she called them, and bring them closer to Jesus.

She could truly say, like Paul, I have fought the good fight and finished my course.
