George Howard Medicus III, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 21st, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his wife Mary, his son David, his daughter Kate, and his grandchildren Sylvia and Julia.

George was born on November 8th,1942, to Frances and George Medicus Jr. in Baltimore, MD. As a teenager, he worked for his parents at Hilton Flower Shop in Catonsville, MD. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and worked on maintenance of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and other civil projects as a systems analyst for the Maryland Department of Transportation.

George loved to travel and spent much of his leisure time in his early twenties touring Europe on a motorcycle and even hitchhiking across the United States. This sense of adventure continued throughout his 55 year marriage to Mary, during which time they climbed mountains, kayaked rivers, and bicycled roads on several continents, often spending time huddled together in a tent outdoors, when they weren’t dancing, which was almost never. He especially loved the time he spent sailing with his friends and family on the Chesapeake Bay near his home of 40 years on Kent Island.

George was an extremely creative person as well. He enjoyed telling, writing, and illustrating stories for his family, and even got a story he wrote read on National Public Radio.

After moving to Tucson, AZ, George was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia.  It was during this time that his painting became extremely colorful, fanciful, and imaginative, and was loved by all.

George was a kind, loving, and extremely hard working husband and father who would do anything for his family. He is remembered for his sense of humor, his carpentry skills, and his love of cookies and donuts.

A memorial service will be held for George in the summer of 2026 by the Chesapeake Bay. Contact the family for further details.

I went to Catonsville High with Howard Medicus after my father was transferred to a manager job with Capital Airlines in 1956. My brother, Dennis, was in the CHS class of 1961 and I was in the class of 1960. We loved Catonsville, but our father was promoted to another position with the airline in New Orleans, so neither of us graduated from Catonsville. But we both loved living in Catonsville - way out on Johnnycake Road. I returned for a reunion of the 1960 and 1961 classes, but since we weren’t “grads” few people remembered us. Howard remembered and enjoyed talking about our time in Catonsville with him.

I was blessed to get to know George and Mary over the course of a few years when he was a patient! Its very rare you meet a couple who stood by each other the way they did! Mary you were his angel and now he is yours! I'm thankful for the drawings that I have on magnets from him! Such a genius imagination he had! Here's to you George! May you continue to watch over Mary and your family! Don't worry about Mary! I will make sure she stays on track with the support she needs thru our clinic!!
