Jimmie Lee Cartmill Baker

September 3, 1933-January 30, 2026

With love and gratitude, we remember Jimmie Lee Cartmill Baker, born on a homestead near Tucson, Arizona. In the southern tradition, she was named after her two grandfathers. With five siblings, she was raised in San Diego, California. A lover of music, she sang in the church choir and later enjoyed ballroom dancing. For twenty years she travelled the world as the wife of James Porter Baker Jr. until he retired from the Air Force. She always put family first. Jimmie passed her love of books and art on to her daughters, encouraging their creative endeavors. She was at her happiest when sharing her talent for baking with children and playing board games. She is survived by her daughters Twyla Baker and Trina Gaynon.

What she wanted most was to be useful. Donating her body to science was her last act of service.
